Penguin Cafe

Penguin Cafe

Bringing together a group of talented musicians from every walk of musical life, Arthur Jeffes has successfully continued his father, Simon’s, original concept of the Penguin cafe Orchestra, and proved to be an outstanding composer himself. His nine-piece band features the unique mix of ukuleles, strings, percussion, electric bass and piano (provided by band member Neil Codling of Suede).

Penguin Cafe’s music has infiltrated daily life from films like Napoleon Dynamite  (Music for a Found Harmonium) to countless theme tunes (listen to Perpetuum Mobile and Telephone and Rubber Band, you’ll know them). Their sound is at once familiar and new, combining acoustic power and a beguiling, feisty charm.

“Penguin Cafe continues to occupy a unique place in music: nothing else has ever sounded quite like it. Eccentric, charming, accommodating, surprising, seductive, warm, reliable, modest and unforgettable: it's a true friend” Brian Eno
